Overview
Project Overview
Pocket MD replaces the stack of disconnected tools a small clinic usually runs on. Front desk staff manage the schedule, doctors work through the day's queue with the patient's history in front of them, prescriptions are written in the same screen as the consultation, and billing follows automatically. We delivered the mobile app, the clinic web workspace and the shared data model behind them.

Challenge
The problem worth solving.
Before the build, Pocket MD had to answer a set of hard questions about healthcare. These are the constraints that shaped every decision that followed.
- 01User problem
Fragmented daily workflow
Scheduling, records, prescriptions and billing lived in separate places, so the same information was entered several times a day.
Affects — Mobile App Development
- 02Business problem
Speed during consultation
A doctor has minutes, not hours. Any screen that needs more than a few taps during a consultation simply doesn't get used.
Affects — UI/UX Design
- 03Technical constraint
Sensitive patient data
Records demand strict access control and a clear audit trail across both mobile and desktop.
Affects — Web Development
- 04Product constraint
Mixed device reality
Front desk works on a desktop, doctors move between rooms with a phone. Both need the same live data.
Affects — Mobile App Development
The solution
From problem to product.
We approached Pocket MD as a clinic management system — deciding the structure, the interface system and the technical foundation in that order, then building them together.
- 01Product direction
One patient timeline
Visits, prescriptions, notes and invoices attach to a single patient record, so history is one scroll rather than four systems.

- 02UX system
Consultation-speed UI
The prescription screen is built around repeat items and templates, keeping a typical entry to a few taps.

- 03Technical foundation
Role-based access
Front desk, doctor and admin see different surfaces of the same data, with permissions enforced on the API rather than the interface.

- 04Delivery
Shared mobile and web clients
A common API and data model behind a React Native app and a React web workspace keeps both in sync in real time.

Features
Built around the work that matters.
The feature set is deliberately narrow: the work healthcare teams do every day, done properly.

Process
How the project came together.
Six phases, from first conversation to launch. Each one produced something the Pocket MD team could review, not just a status update.
- 01 — Phase
Discovery
Shadowed a clinic day to map the real sequence of scheduling, consultation, prescription and payment.
Deliverables
- Stakeholder interviews
- Scope definition
- Success criteria
Key decision — What has to be true for this product to work.
- 02 — Phase
Planning
Modelled the patient record as the single object everything else attaches to.
Deliverables
- Data model
- Architecture outline
- Delivery roadmap
Key decision — The shape of the system before any screen is drawn.
- 03 — Phase
UX / UI
Designed the consultation screens first, since that is where time pressure is highest.
Deliverables
- Core flows
- Interface design
- Design system tokens
Key decision — Which screen carries the product and gets designed first.
- 04 — Phase
Development
Built the shared API, then the web workspace and the mobile app against it.
Deliverables
- Front end build
- API and services
- Integrations
Key decision — What ships in the first release and what waits.
- 05 — Phase
Testing
Tested permission boundaries and ran the full day's workflow with clinic staff before launch.
Deliverables
- Functional QA
- Performance checks
- Accessibility pass
Key decision — The quality bar the release has to clear.
- 06 — Phase
Launch
Rolled out with staff training and data migration from the previous tools.
Deliverables
- Deployment
- Monitoring
- Handover and training
Key decision — How the product is supported after go-live.
